About to get a new desk for my recording setup.

Just wondering what kind of setup you prefer and why?

Here are a few setups I can think of right now:
1. Having monitor(s) and speakers on one large desk.
2. Having monitor(s) on a smaller desk and speakers on stands.
3. Having monitor(s) and speakers on a desk with a plateau to raise speakers to ear level.

Best regards

I would start with the "universal" setup and go from there --

You never really want your speakers on your desk... Put your head .38 the length of the long wall from the short wall. Speakers on stands, about 1.5' from the short wall (assuming they're not huge) and make your "triangle" from there.

Example - If your room is 12x15, your head is 5.7' from the short wall. If your speakers are 1.5' from the wall, your equilateral triangle is around 3.2'.

The more broadband absorption, the more 'wiggle room' in those measurements. But in a typical room of typical construction, that's where you probably want to start out.

Greatly appreciated, MM!

Guess I'll go with the "universal" setup then :)

A lot of small rooms can also benefit from your monitors being all the way up against the short wall. We've seen a lot of success there. I would suggest trying it both ways (and even steps between if you have the time/patience).

IMO, set up is the most important place to start - and is always worth it since it won't cost you money!

Thanks for chiming in GIK Acoustics!

My room has the following measurements in meters: 4.25 x 4.75 x 2.05

In feet, about: 14.00 x 15.50 x 6.75.

So I guess it's kind of small, but not super-small.

Thank you so much for the link. Great read!
