happy hour

New member
I just bought a used NT-1 cuz it was really cheap and now i need a Pre-amp as i do not have enough money as yet for a mackie or spirit mixer. I've been looking at the Behringer Ultragain Pro, the ART MP, and the Midiman Audiobuddy. Since I don't know much about preamps any help would be great, thanks.

I'm not going to help you choose, because I haven't compared the ones you've listed, but I think there's one more pre you can add to your list: Presonus Blue Tube. You get two channels for less than it would cost to buy two ART Tube MPs.

Ah, YES!

Presonus Blue Tube is nize! I have an NT1, too, and it sounds wonderful through the Blue Tube.

Gere Junkie

Have you tried the Art Tube MP? Or did you just go with the Blue Tube? I'm in the same situation as happy hour, and I'm stuck between the Presonus and ART. Someone wanna help?

excellent, thanks for the suggestion, ill definately go check out the presonus!

If can spend the extra dough, check out the Joe Meek VC1Q... You won't be disappointed...

If you have the extra dough...

get a Telefunken V72..you'll love it. :D

Sorry, I've been "away"...

Yes, I did try the Tube MP (had 2 - an old one that I bought used and a new one), also had a couple of the Levelars the ART tube compressors). Didn't find them to be anything special, there was some subtle distortion (bad kind), there were problems with the LED, it doesn't like just any tubes. And most importantly: it's very space-un-friendly, you'll have a spider-web of wires if you use more than one. I ended up building a rack and the Presonus fit lovely in a rack. They are 2 preamps for less then 50% more than the Tube MP, they have the inputs on the front panel, better metering, YOU choose wheter to amplify cleanly or to drive it through the tube and color it. They may not be a Joe Meek or whatever, but they sure do beat the Tube MP. I have 2 of the Blue Tube-s in my rack and I record everything through them now.

Great...thanks for the reply. It looks like I'll be adding a Presonus to my collection soon enough. Do you know if Guitar Center sells them?

Don't know, got mine at Sam Ash for $129 ea. It's not their ad price, but if they know you, that's how low they can go.

Audio Buddy

Has anyone out there tried the Midiman Audio Buddy? Its fairly inexpensive so I'm not expecting a whole lot of quality but if there are any glaring shortcomings I would like to know about them.

Thats a negative on Guitar Angel selling Presonus. Its one of the few things they dont sell. One of the few things, because they dont stock it, that they cant sell well.

I don't know about the Audio-Buddy, but the slightly more expensive M-Audio DMP2 is a killer deal on PRES ($180 street price) ! It has excellent specs, and reviews.
It surpasses the Mackie VLZ PRO preamps in sound transparency (I own both)
