Hi I`ve just bought a presonus firepod, and I love it.
exelent quality and lots of input channles "8 in total"

Now, I know there are two more hidden behind "digital inputs" spdf.

I was wandering if any could recomend a decent dual preamp\channel with digital out so that I could make my firepod a 10 track.

Please feel free to recomend both cheapo solutions and a bit more "$$$" ones.

Art DPS II (about $230)
M-Audio Tampa (about $400)
Aphex 207D (about ($400)

Some, like the Presonus Eureka ($500), can be outfitted with an optional digital out card.

Go to some of the on-line retailers and just start looking through their pre-amps....
 
the tampa has gotten some good feedback on here as being a good preamp for the money... however, keep in mind that it is a single channel unit and i believe would only allow you to have a total of 9 inputs with your unit.
 
Digtal pre

I know some people will say no! but the dbx 386 has some good digtal out's on it and it is a two ch pre
 
I just picked up a Art DPS II. I like it so far.
Lots of features.
It was the only one in my price range that I liked. (sub $300)

I just saw an ad in the latest MIX mag that you get a free AD192 Digital output card with purchess of the Presonus Eureka.

one more for the road, anyone no of any decent convertors, as I have a few mixers, and I`m a bit low on cash.

the converter would be a "line`or xlr" in and Spdf or coax out.

I second the Aphex 207D. I am a happy user of the Aphex 207 which is now discontinued. I plan to grab a 207D soon to add two channels to my rig bringing me up to 20. I have 2 MOTU 896's and a Lunatec V3 that brings me to 18 as of now. The Aphex sounds great to me! I like the miclim feature very much. Great for getting a snare to peak without clipping. I usually run kick and snare into my 207. I have also had great success with a U87, KM184 and nice acoustic guitars! Great value at $400!! Trust me. You'll probably start to dislike your presonus once you hear the Aphex... BEWARE!!! ;)
 
The Joemeek Twin Q would give you something very differant and is dual channel with digi outs. If you just want a converter look at the Lucid 2496 A/D
 
Update. I just ordered an Aphex 207D today! Looking forward to my next sessions to put it to work.
