Hi,

I actually have an audiobox usb from presonus. I want to buy a M-Audio DMP3 preamp, I wanted to know if my soundcard's integrated preamps would mess up my sound quality? In other words, is it worth it or not to buy a preamp with that soundcard.

Don't know the equipment referenced, but you do not want to run one pre-amp into another.

Uhm I see... so.. should I keep my interface with built-in preamps, or buy a soundcard with a stand-alone preamp ?

According to the Presonus blurb, the Audio box has a choice of mic and instrument inputs. There's no mention of a balanced line input which is what you'd need to feed the M-Audio into it.

Frankly, unless you spend a LOT of money for a very specialist preamp (and have a very expensive microphone to justify it) it's rarely worth an external preamp. As far as I know, there's nothing particularly wrong with the Presonus preamps and the M-Audio ones won't be dramatically better.
