I don't think it's common for the 1/4" line input to go through the pre-amp
That's easy enough to check... just plug into "line in" and turn the trim/gain pot... if the volume changes, it's going through the preamp.

Uhmm what is common?

My preamp does have a line out, and it also has a built in speaker emulator.......but I've never really been a big fan of going direct with a guitar rig..........I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. At least that way I'll know I've tried all of my options. :)

Thanks

I stand corrected. After consulting my Mackie manual I found that line inputs go through the pre-amp gain stage while the insert inputs do not. There appears to be a passive device between the line input and the gain stage; it's not apparent from the symbols they used whether it's an attenuator or something to keep phantom power off the line inputs.

This seems counter intuitive to me but probably makes sense to the old timers. In any event it's good to know in case I ever connect a high end pre to my mixer.

Yeah, I though you might want to know... anyways, I'm glad the info helps you. Peace, Don.
