Preamp and mAudio 410 Firewire Together?

Getting back into home recording after a 3 year baby break. :) I am considering the mAudio 410 Firewire unit for recording, but I'd like to use tube preamps.

Question: Is it possible to run instruments in the tube preamp, and then into the 410? This seems like a preamp on top of a preamp, which may not be a good thing. Thanks for any info you can provide.

That's a decent question....I'm in a similar boat and thinking of buying the mAudio "Ozone". I'm thinking that as long as signals aren't too strong and distorted you may actually stumble on some magic. Did you ever get an answer?

Pat - No.. In the past, I've run lines into preamps and then into the breakout box of a PCI Delta 410. Obviously, the Delta 410 is just a connection directly to the computer - the preamps boosted the signal of the incoming instrument or mic.

With the mAudio Firewire 410, the unit is both the "brains" to process the incoming signal, as well as the breakout box itself. Hence, my question..
 
If you are going to be useing Outboard Tube Preamps then why not get a device that doesn"t have any Preamps?? Like something with 1/4in TS/TRS Jacks or RCA Inputs/outputs? The you can Plug your Pre amps into the seperate Inputs and no have to worry about a second set of Preamps affecting the sound, Pluss it would be quite a bit cheaper to get a Unit without preamps as opposed to one with Preamps...Like maybe a Delta 1010???

Primarily because I want the ease of using Firewire. The Delta 44 and 1010 are great, but I'm tied to the large PC, rather than the Firewire unit which means I can move around.

Looking at the back of the mAudio 410 Firewire I'm seeing two inputs that are "unbalanced" which I think can be used with a tube preamp.
 
Wouldnt u just run ur line out in the preamp to the line in on the firewire interface? Just dont turn the preamp on on the firewire device, turn it on the preamp.
