i have an audiobuddy
one of the channels stopped working.

my bassist whilst recording his part for my band's demo put his amp head's speaker cable from the head to the input of the pre...

the question is....could that be the reason??

he wanted to plug in direct but the amp didnt have line outs.

Wow. That is not a good idea. An amplifier pushes WAY to many amps and would burn out a pre-- maybe even a whole board if the ohms are low enough in the board. If the bass amp has a "effects out" you can use it as a direct out but it will mute the amp... What kind of out-puts/in-put does the bass amp have?

the amp has exactly that....the sends and outs.

sucks for me :(

I am never letting any one touch any of my gear again....money is gold at 16 :p

One question:

"Is it still under warranty?"

If so, the correct reply is "I'm not sure what happened. It just stopped working."

Beyond that... hooking up an amp's powered output to a preamp would likely toast it. Hooking it up to a -line- input would be risky....

That said, you might find that the damage is trivial like a fuse or something. If the preamp has phantom power, there should be a filter cap protecting the actual preamp from the DC. There's a good chance that it smoked instantly, in which case somebody good at soldering might be able to fix the channel by replacing a $0.20 part. If it's out of warranty, it would be worth looking inside it anyway, IMHO.
