Hello,
I use an Audix headhead mic on stage and it works great
plugged into the mixer with the phantom power switched on.
I play the Pennywhistle with a harpest so I need a sweet
sound with re-verb.
Now I would like to buy a little pre-amp for plugging into
my computer or a little portable studio.
Will any one do, or does someone know of one that would
just be perfect?
Thanks, Lolly

do you wish tosave some dough or do you want quality. The Audio Buddy is popular, two channel, and 79.00.

The presonus blue tube is also two channel at 150.00 and a huge step up in the sense that tube sound is included.

I think that whether or not a starved plate tube design is a step up is a matter of opinion.I don't like faux tube design as I think they just add noise in the guise of warmth.Might be ok for an effect but I would not track everything through one.I have heard that the Blue Tube sounds better than the other cheap tube models but only because you can basically bypass the tube by turning down the tube drive.

The Audio Buddy is a very quiet and clean sounding mic pre.I think that at the low end of the budget scale it is the best choice.I would love a real tube preamp but the cheapest one available is made by Peavy and cost about $700.After the Peavy tube pres prices go way up.I know everyone wants that tube warmth but if the real deal is out of your budget a cheap compromise just doesn't cut it.For us bottom feeder types solid state is the way to go.Forget tubes.

I understand Randy's point, and I agree to some extent. But... I wanted some variety, so I bought the Audio Buddy AND the ART TPS tube preamp system. No, it's not a real tube system - but it's a 2-channel pre that is supposed to be quieter than the ART Tube MP Studio, which I found great on bass, not bad on some acoustic guitar but too noisy for vocals.

Now I have a choice of a bottom-feeder clean sound (Audio Buddy) and a range of distortion (the ART TPS.) - and both of them are 2-channel.

And... I have an ART Tube MP Studio for sale. Anyone interested?
