i'm a poor college student who can't afford a lot of the basic equipment needed to make recording a lot easier. so here's my dilemma:

i just built a new computer for recording on, and i need a mic preamp plus a compressor, and maybe a limiter/gate. i was planning plugging my new rode nt-2 into the preamp, and run it into my soundcard. since i don't have much money, i was thinking of getting an all-in-one kind of processor. i was thinking of the dbx 286a microphone processor, cuz it has a preamp, compressor, expander/gating and a spetral enhancer and de-esser. does anyone know if this setup would be good for my recording? or should i get an art tube mp, plus a cheap compressor?

ya know, Behringer has a whole slew of really good gear for the price. don't get a mic processor until you get a good mic, that's the secret. then get your compressor, vocal processor, multi-effects etc. Oh, and get a good pair of monitors!
