Can someone help please. I have recorded a couple of tracks using Power Tracks, I then compressed them to wav. file What I'm after is how to convert that to mp3. Do I need a separate piece of software? I can only find about importing mp3's into the recording, nothing about converting to mp3.

Or are they the same thing? and I'm too computer illiterate to know?

Clive...I have PowerTracks version 8...I just took a look and didn't find a way to convert to MP3 from inside the program (It does have a "Merge audio tracks to WMA file" option)...

You may need to use a separate wav -> mp3 converter program (after merging your tracks into a wav file from inside PowerTracks). From time to time people ask about converters on this board and are usually given several free program suggestions.

What I have been doing (when using Powertracks) is choosing the option "Merge audio tracks to stereo wav file" and then opening that wav file in Cakewalk Pyro 2004 (which I downloaded for around $30). I use Pyro as a "poor man" mastering tool, it allows one to EQ, boost volume, and add effects to the stereo mix. Pyro also lets one convert between wav, mp3, and wma, this is what I use to convert my "mastered" WAV to MP3.

Thanks,
After I had posted I found in the audio section "Merge Audio and DXI tracks to Compressed File" at that stage it generates a temporary stereo file and asks you to select an audio output format, after you select and press OK it compresses the file. If you select an MPEG layer-3 format it will save it as MP3 instead of .WAV.
It worked well.

Thanks Clive...I guess I learned more from you (trying to help you) than you did from me...I did find the option earlier that saves to a compressed file (and I assume an mp3 is a type of compressed file, since it is so much smaller than a wav file) but I didn't go through the steps to the point of having an option to save as an mp3...I will have to try it.
