I just purchased a pair of Alesis Monitor One Mk2's. I was going to power them with an old Technics stereo receiver I have, however, when I went to use it, it no longer works properly.

Will I be O.k. just going to Best Buy or Circuit City and purchasing a new stereo receiver rated for at least 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Will I have a problem because the monitors are rated at 4 ohms? Is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks.

I reccomend looking at the pawn shops, or High end stereo shops that sell some used gear and try to score a Carver reference amp. thats your best bet.

I was lucky and found a Phase Linear 400 in a Garage sale, for only $20 that just needed some contact cleaner. Its a Bob Carver design that Alan Parsons used to do the pink floyd records.

Monitor amps

I just bought a pair of Alesis Monitor one mk2's and and alesis ra300 amp to power em. This amp/monitor combination rocks!
Loud as hell when needed and very very clean.
I think the amp was $399 Canadian. check it out on musiciansfriend

Get yourself a budget Hafler.........

(if you're not on a budget - I'd suggest the P3000)

And fatillac - sorry to burst your bubble - it is inconceivable that ANY Alesis amp "rocks" -- Alesis makes some good gear but amps and monitors aren't among them..........
