Powered Monitors question

Hi, I am new here and this is my first post. I will start off with a question to show how little I know about recording equipment, and hopefully somebody can help me out. I have a Tascam DP 02, and I recently purchased two Rokit Powered studio monitors. The DP 02 has two RCA line outs (left and right) for going out to an amp/monitors. The Rokits have XLR, RCA and 1/4" jack inputs. The Rokits haven't arrived yet, I just ordered them. Anyway, I was wondering how to hook these up. I've been told that there's no such thing as a single RCA cable with one jack on the end. Musician's Friend (where I ordered these) told me to just use a cable with 2 RCA jacks on one end and a 1/4" jack on the other end to go into one monitor and then run a seperate cable from that monitor to the other one. That just doesn't sound right to me. Anybody have any suggestions on how best to hook up these 2 powered monitors to a DP 02?

Thanks,
Fiddleeio

That's baloney. Another user on this forum is sending me a box full of single RCA cables even as we speak.

Any RCA duel cable can be pulled apart to make a single, usually you don't want this to happen but in your case do it. It's like pulling a slice of licorice off of the others.

Yep. I know which cable the guy at Musician's Friend is trying to sell you because the guy at Guitar Center sold me the same cable. Not that it isn't a good quality cable or useful around the studio, but it is more expensive than what moresound just suggested.

So I can just peel an RCA cable to make two seperate cables? How about single RCA to a 1/4" cable, does anybody make those? The guy at MF didn't have a solution for me except to say that a product specialist would call me sometime. He did say they didn't have single RCA cables. That's when I decided to register for this forum, I figured I'd get better advice here and I already have. Thank you very much diggy_dude and moresound.

Yes.

Most likely. However the dual RCA-to-1/4" cable they want you to buy can be smoothly ripped into two cables just like regular RCA pairs. If it's the Live Wire, it's actually a good cable with a lifetime warranty.

I wouldn't advise you against the Live Wire, as it's a good cable. Just saying whoever told you they don't make single RCAs was misinformed.

Duh, I guess I could always just get an adapter if I wanted to go to 1/4" from RCA. I'm definitely typing faster than I'm thinking!

I'm getting a bunch of those in the aforementioned lot too. And some RCA-to-RCA adapters to make longer cables out of them. :laughings:

The guy at Guitar Center specifically advised me against going the "Radio Shack" route of countless mismatched cables and adapters, and he has a point. But wiring my studio is proceeding slowly because the cost of all those Live Wires adds up in a hurry. So the Radio Shack route is going to have to do for a minute.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to welcome you to the forum. :)

Everybody this is Fiddleeio everybody say HI.

You may have to wait a little while to get a response for it FRIDAY NIGHT and the smoking lamp is lit. ;)

There has been many reports done on the specialty type name brand cables and come to find out ...... not that much of a difference at all. Just marketing hype. just saying what I heard ~ I can't give facts.

I don't doubt the qualitative difference among brands of copper wire is negligible. But high quality shielded connectors on cables provide a more reliable connection than adapter splices.

This is too cool, I wish I would have got on here a long time ago:)

Well, RCA to 1/4" jack single cables do exist. I've had some since 1993. My first ever reverb unit only had RCA outs so I needed those cables and they were fine.

I guess I could always just get an adapter if I wanted to go to 1/4" from RCA.
Yep, I've done that since '93~'94 too. In point of fact, I used two of each the other week as I was transfering 4 tracks from my analog portastudio to my digital and I wanted them to run together. Worked a treat.
