Hi,

I don't know if there's a lot of Mac users in the forum...

A friend of mine -Mac only- is thinking of going mobile with his rig. He's thinking of buying a 1GHz powerbook with Hammerfall DSP system and multiface, in addition to his Yamaha O1v mixing desk + Behringer desk.
Goal is to be able to record 16tracks at once (8 pre's on O1v, 8pre's on Behringer -> line in on O1v -> ADAT out to Multiface)

Big question mark in this setup is the harddrive performance of the powerbook. Specifications on apple.com learn that these babies have a 4,200rpm disk inside (handling 26Mbytes/sec)
Recording 16 tracks 48kHz,24bits would mean about 17,6Mbytes/sec ...

...or would he be better off buying an extra drive ? (firewire too slow ??)

TIA,
Herwig

3 bytes (=24 bits) x 48k x 16 tracks = 2.3Megabytes/s.
Any 21th century HD can handle that easily.
