Anybody have an opinion on this? Are they both for the same purpose? Is one light years better than the other or are they basically the same?

Let me tell you and anybody who will listen - trying to figure out how to get started is more than confusing, especially when money's tight & I don't want to waste it by buying the wrong thing or not being able to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do with it when I do finally get something. I read a lot of stuff but it's almost all Greek to me. But you gotta start somewhere - right?

I'm not familar with Power Tracks Pro, but I can tell you N-Track is a very good multitrack recording program for the price.

what is the price?

What is the price of N-Tracks?

N-track's demo is free and the full version is $45. Go to www.fasoft.com for more information.

The program and the manual are good if you are new to recording.

The only problem I have found is the fact that certain features are automatically switched on upon initial installation. For example, the software is initially set with the "snap to grid" function on. This little feature is a complete hindrance when manually lining up tracks and the user manual (unless it has been recently updated, which I doubt) fails miserably in telling you how to turn this shit off. The toolbar icons on your screen will not match the manual either. You will either have to frequently consult their forum or spend quality time pressing buttons and screwing up wav files to find out how the more advanced features work.

Oh, one other thing: stay away from the mixer automation feature, as the faders can only be set once. Volume curves directly on the waveform will be your best friend.

I use Power Tracks Pro from PG Music. Cost was $27. Works well for me.

Power Tracks is cheaper and has better Midi....I would have went with it over N-Track but at the time they didnt do 24 bit or plugins....they now have 24 bit capability and do DX plugins but no VST.......

N-Track is a bit ahead of Power Tracks, but not much.......
