Get Cubase or sonar..i dont know which version of each but whichever u need..regardless of the softwares, get a good mixer with sufficient amount of channels. u will need them.

Lots and lots of links. Tons 'o demos to try out and most recording programs do basically the same thing with minor variations.

Only YOU can choose what's best for YOU.....

any more oppinons? Is the mixer really needed?it dosent come with the program?

I like PowerTracks Pro from www.pgmusic.com. Very inexpensive (under $50) and sounds like it'd do what you need it to do. Not as granular as Pro Tools or some of the other high-dollar stuff, but a good solid program. Excellent bargain for the $$.

I recorded my last solo CD entirely with PowerTracks. Mastered using CD Architect (now owned by Sony), and had an outside mastering studio do a little tweaking here and there for the final glass. Feel free to check it out at www.cdbaby.com/dougplamb although the audio samples are not the highest quality. HTH

Tracktion 2 is a good program. It comes with RMIV, which is a multiple output drum machine vst, it has both acoustic and electronic drums, and it also comes with Sampletank, which is a softsynth, and amplitube, for all your guitar modeling, (if you need it), Plus a ton of other stuff. It's worth looking into, especially if this is your first time using recording software, simply because it is very easy to learn and use. It is definitley capable of producing professional results. I compose all my drums and bass with the vst's. And record guitars and vocals analog. A mixer is nice to have if you want to use outboard gear, but it is not necessary to have one, but it is nice to have the option of adding one later if needed. :)
