Power supply fuse question

Found out why the solo doesn't work on my Tascam M3500, blown fuse in the power supply for the 8 volt section. The fuse is 1.6 amps but all I have on hand right now is 2 amp, kinda gun shy about using the 2 amp fuse. Would the .4 amp differance "cook" the power supply? The chain is: tranny out (multi tap), fuse, rectifier, regulator, 8 volts out.

I know not to use a higher rated fuse for a replacement but the .4 amp differance makes one side say yeh go for it but the other is..uh..shy.

Thanks in advance.

haave ya got a DMM??? ya know meter for resistence and voltage??? turn off the machine and check the side of the fuse that leads to the next stage and measure resistence to grnd... if it reads essentialy zero then there's a short somewhere... get it fixed... if not shorted i'ld rather go a step lower at 1.5a...

Yep, gots a Fluke 75 and a Simpson 250. The 8V section checked out OK so I put a 1 amp fuse in and powed it up with no load. Got 8 volts again. Pluged the supply back to the board, applied power, and "tripped" all the solo's (28) and let everything 'simmer' for a hour (even the VU meter lights work now). All was good, Thanks!
