power for plug-in

i'm running a sony vaio p4 3.4 ghz with ht technology with 200 gig hd and a 1 gig of 3200 ddram. i have a firepod and record to sonar 4se. i record at least 6 times at once and i like to use plug-ins for almost every track. but sometimes i guess i run to many plug-ins that sometimes the audio play-back drops and the only way to listen to the whole track with the plugins is to either mix down the entire track and save to wav format or while its playing in sonar, turn on and off the plugins while its playing. its getting a but frustrating, so i was wondering what do i need to upgrade, the cpu or just get more memory? if i have to change the cpu, i would like the stay with pentium unless someone can convince me other wise. and also, next paycheck, i'm also thinking about upgarding to sonar 5, just don't know if i'm going to get p.e. or stick with s.e. anyway, if someone can help me, i greatly appreciate it. thanks

If you're getting the exact sound you want going in, let your input be an aux track that records to your desired audio track.

I don't work with Sonar so I don't know the command to set it up, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.
