I bought a power condition fopr my rack.
I currently have this plug into the power conditioner:
mackie 1400i amp
mackie 1402 mixer
compresser
yamaha spx 90ii
cd player
boss drum machine

I use this in my basement as a toy/hobby.

Simple question... there is a main swicth for power on the conditioner. Can i leave the amp turned up and kill the power at this switch or should i turn down the main mix and the amp prior to turn the power off at the conditioner.
I have killed power with the volume up and it just shut down...no squel
a few light on the amp stayed lit for a little while. Is this adding extra strain to the amp?

You should be able to turn them all off at once with the main switch. The ONLY thing that might be a prob would be the amp, as I am not sure if it has some sort of power up/down sequencing built into it's own switch. You might check with the manual...

Mackie says in their manual to power up last so that the other items powering up will not pop our thump when they power up.
The amp has a 3 second delay on it when it starts up.

When i just shut off the rack power it lights up the protect lights on the amp...but is actually going to harm the thing? i would think not? will the fan continue running in an amp after you have shut it down?

Just want to be cautious with my investment and also lazy in its use.

Don't worry about it. The only thing that happen with some setups is something in the chain makes a big THUMP! when you shut it off. That won't mess up the amp but the speakers don't like it. If your stuff doesn't do that, you are all good.

There is another concern about doing what you're doing. Depending on the total wattage you have connected to the power strip you might have a problem should everything turn on at the same time.

Normally, the commercial stuff is rated to sustain up to 15 amp, which is fairly high. But just in case, it's always a good practice to keep this in mind. Some road rack rigs contain several power amps and you should be careful in such cases.

The reason why you see that light dim out after you turn the amp off is because the power circuitry condensers are to discharge progressively after you turn the thing off, and normally these leds or small lights are part of the resistive circuit responsible for accomplishing that.

Based on the list above, the load should be nowhere near the 15 amp breaker limit. The only realy draw I see in the list is the Mackie amp when it is initially started up.
