Alright....I'm getting ready to buy a power amp and monitors for my crappy little breakfast nook ghetto studio  I've decided that I want to keep the amp and monitors seperate for the sake of flexibilty and upgrade options. I've heard very good things about the Hafler TA1600 and I'm sure that it will be plenty good, and I can get a new one for around $180. However, there is also a Phase Linear 400 and a Crown DC300A II for sale here for a little bit more than the Hafler, both in good condition. I would go for a new Hafler just for the peace of mind of having a new amp, but I think the Phase Linear is a cool amp, and I know the Crowns are classics, plus both of these have more power than the Hafler....any opinions on the way to go with this? My budget is capped at $500 for this, so that will leave me with $200-$300 for monitors, which I know is not a lot of money for good speakers, but I can get a pair of KRK K-Roks for around $200, and I've heard good things about the Yorkville YSM-1s for around the same price (I remember someone saying these are today's NS10s)...any opinions one these two monitors, or better choices? I posted a similar query in the rack forum but didn't get much response, maybe this a better place for a question like this.
Thanks!
Cliff
