Posting in newbies becuase it might be quite basic. But perhaps belongs in DIY. My pots is are d-shaft and when i screw on the knob on it does not line up to the faceplate as i want. Is the a way to change the orientation of the flat part of the d shaft?

Often the knob has a little metal clip attached (mechanically or by glue) in its round shaft opening for the D-shaft - check to see if the knob has this and it can be rotated.

If the pot is panel mounted (not mounted to a circuit board inside) you can just loosen the nut a bit and twist the thing wherever you want.
