Where I work, we have a tradition of buying beer for all our colleagues who aren't getting posted overseas - it is assumed that since we will be making oodles of cash, it is only fitting we do this. There are 12 of us going out this year, all over the world. I'm off to Seoul.

As the defacto organizer this year, I thought I'd do up a little tune for the crowd the night before.

This was written, recorded and processed in about an hour (from 1015 - 1130), so bear with it. My intent was to create as much of an old blues recording as I could, so it's heavily compressed, mono and done in a single take (so there's a couple of finger problems).

From the feedback I've gotten at work, it came out well, but I wanted to get some experienced ears to tell me if I succeeded.

Sounds pretty good to me. If I were to comment on anything, I'd say the git is kinda "boomy". Maybe roll off some low end on it. The vocals come through nice enough. Is it "sssy" or is that just me? Nice job. I think it will serve the purpose and then some.

Great guitar playing. The vocals seem to have a bit too much reverb and are somewhat loud, but the lyrics seem fun. I think lowering the vocals will actually help to center your voice more. That is, focus on your natural voice more -- it's good!

Hope your pals enjoy!

Enjoyed your guitar playing. You really captured that old style you were going for both with the guitar and the vocals. I thought I noticed a few timing issues but hey!, you did it in an hour and those old guys fluctuated a lot anyway. Very nice.

Thanks for your feedback !

Wish I had tracked things separately - I just set the mic up about shoulder level, 3 feet away, threw on a little plate rev (a bit too much), and played away. No EQ, just passed it through a comp in CE2K and burned a copy.

Need to fix that sibilance issue though, the more I listen to it, the more it bugs me.

But what the hell, I was still in bed before midnight :D

And yes, the guys at work all think it's a hoot, so I guess I accomplished what I set out to do.

Cheers,
mike

Yea, I liked it. Now I see the wisdom of the Martin D-35, I should have shelled out the extra and bypassed the cheaper Korean.
Now I have to convince "she who must be obeyed" of the merits of a Martin, but this MP3 might help, seriously tho', nice guitar, the vocal was ok too.

I've been meaning to check this out. Sounds very cool man. I don' think the reverb is too much myself. Nice picking too. Pretty fun tune. I think they'll dig it for sure. (Unless of course the gathering has already gone by and I'm just late to this thread ;)

Thanks for all the support !

The party is almost a week over, but if you want to see some pictures of a bunch of drunk electronic technologists, go here:

I'm the one with long hair in black.
Unfortunately, there's no pics of me playing the tune live, as the guy with the camera was holding the lyrics for me, and forgot to get someone to take a pic (he's the first one in the Bobby hat - looks like Jimmy Fallon). I played a friggin' Martin Backpacker there - it was much easier to carry around drunk later that night.
