So, I have got my gretsch set sounding nice so far with no eq work or comps etc. just a drum mix. I am happy with it, but i know i could be happier.

I know that a better mic closet would definately help things, but...I have 2 questions that i have been struggling with for a little while.

How do i approach things like compression, on each individual drum? or on the kit itself as an aux send type of thing ? What are typical guidlines for this process...

Secondly, What about delay and reverb? How should i approach this? and to what drums.

Right now, i typically, eq the kick to bring out what i like, same with the snare... im adding a little reverb to the kick to ring out the low tones..make it a "bigger boom", and the snare, im just bringing out the attack of the snares and it sounds pretty good.

Now for a drum sound that i do like.. is deftones, the new album, i like how the kick is a bit exaggerated in the mix. 36 Crazyfists is also another nice sound i like.. (for those who are familiar)

But it sounds like there is a quick , 'flutter' delay on both the kick and the snare.. ? (in deftones)

Any advice to anything related would be more than appreciated..
In a nut shell, ive got the drums on tape, sounding decent....what now?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the novel.

Let's hear what you've done so far

Any technique is fair game if it sounds like you want it to. More members may be able to comment if we knew what sort of sound your getting now.

I like to clean things up with gates and a big high-pass on the overheads.
then it start working with compression. i usually do it on individual tracks and buss my kick and snare to a heavy comp to smash them to hell and mix back in (parallel compression).

I don't think he's still around, guys....He started this thread 4 frickin' years ago.

D'OH!

I didn't notice it either.

Rami's on da ball man!

How do you go about finding a 4 year old post that no one has answered? That is amazing!
