Question and I think this is the best place to ask it. :o My Church wants to buy a digital mixing console (like a mackie D8B maybe) for the sanctuary and for the worship team to use. Currently we have a Mackie SR-24, but its time to replace that.

Do any of you have any suggestions of a decent digital console for maybe 5K to 6K range??

Better yet,,,,do any of you deal in consoles and/or have something for sale that might fit the bill??

Just thought I'd ask on here before making any decisions or purchases.

Thanks

Note to self: Open new church. Church of Willis, perhaps.

Specificaly why digital?

Look into Yamaha. They have some good house of worship programs. I have a Yamaha LS9-32 beside of me that is pretty cool for doing what it does. But it really depends on what you want it to do.

We work closely with Yamaha and Digico, but generally stuff way out of that budget. I'd assess your needs for digital first. Its usually better suited to moving productions than permanant installs.

Quite honestly, I think they want digital simply for its ability to not only easily expand down the road, but even more-so because they want a console that will take "snapshots" of different fader settings (scenes), and then the inexperienced newbies on sound can just drop down a name and click and the faders will go to previous settings to get them started quick with a mix.

Most Churches dont have pro sound guys but instead volunteers who are basically button pushers, so they want it as easy as possible.

Plus they will be recording the services as well as Podcasting the services (off the recorded CD's).

Does anyone make an analoge board that can do all this????

I have been looking so far at the Mackie and Yamaha Digitals, but am open to any other suggestions.

Thanks for the input so far ,,,and please keep it coming. Much appreciated!!

Stay safe

How many channels of ins/outs do you need?

I have a Tascam tm-d1000 that has up to 128 snapshots. You can daisy chain them together to double or triple the ins/outs.

EZ,,,,the Worship Team Leader asked for 32 channels if possible. I just explained to them that we are looking at more then 5K to get the right unit. I am supposed to keep researching and seeing whats out there.

Out of the three Brands we are talking about so far, how would you rate the three overall???

Mackie
Yamaha
Tascam

Again thanks for all the input so far.

You can link 2 16 channel tm-d1000's together for 32 channels at around $500.

That Yamaha LS9-32 looks to be a sweet board. ;) Is your used, and do ya want to sell it?? :D

AJ

Actually we use ours to do testing for Yamaha. We build recording systems they sell with their digital consoles. Yamaha Lyve Tracker

Of the three, Yamaha is the company used mostly by professionals in this type of setting. I have seen more of the Mackies in small studios than in fixed live installations, and Ive never seen a Tascam being used for live production. Not that they're not out there, just that Ive not seen them with all the production companies we work with.

If its purely recall you want, I much prefer analog boards with VCA, like the Allen&Heath ML series. The Ml3000 is in your budget and would be absolutely fabulous for your application.

I just did some quick research on the ML3000. Looks to be a cool board that might in fact work out great for what we are looking for. It seems though that its only 24 channel>? Is that correct? And can I get one in 32 Channel?? (sorry, I am not much up on all the different consoles). :o

Also can I hook up a computer flat screen monitor like I have with my Mackie D8B and use that to call up memorized snapshots, and to view other console controls like the D8B allows??

If so, this might be a good possibility for us.

Also I Googled and found sites reference this board, but can you recommend the best place maybe for the best price to buy one? (or at least let me get a price for when I discuss it with the Church).

Thanks again

AJ

There are several versions of this board, 24-40 channel, and different options and configs. There's no monitor hookup, as its an analog console and not a digital one. Soundwise and functionally, this will blow that Mackie completely away. But its not a computer.

Give A&H a call. They have people devoted to House of Worship (and put out info literature just for it). They can also guide you to a contractor in your area to work with. Most do special house of worship discounts and such.

This place has many models listed with the list prices on them:

Church prices will be a little better than that. Shoot me a pm or email if you want more info than that. I have alot of the info at work.

Let me ask then,,,,On this board, how does the preset snapshots from memory (recall) work??

And I appreciate all your valuable information. You have been a huge help!!

Thanks
AJ ;)

You can hook up a computer to it, and it has internal software. he 2 things controlled are mute functions and vca assignment if you learn how to use these in combination, it becomes very easy to set up with different scenes. Read the info at the bottom of the page, as well as the reviews.
