Possibly the stupidest question ever.

They are devices that take very small electrical signals and bring them up to a standard level so that they can be fed into standard devices for recording, amplifying to audible levels, and other such manipulation. Microphones require preamps. The cartridges from phonographs too. Guitar amps contain a preamp stage and a power amp stage. Preamps meant for microphones tyically also contain a source of so-called phantom power for condenser mics that require it.

Nice try, Chris!

But I retain title and belt to "Stupidest Question" when I asked:

If I record with a Mr. Microphone into my karioki machine and output to my VCR, will I get the same quality as an ADAT, or will the picture be blury? :D

Seriously, if you don't know...you gotta ask. I spent weeks trying to figure out what the difference between balanced and unbalanced is. The whole 16bit vs 24bit issue was another.

If a train leaves New York at 6:00 traveling east at 68 MPH and another leaves Los Angelas at 4:32 traveling west at 47 MPH,do I walk to work or bring my lunch?

I'm dyin over here......

"No honey! It's all the gelatenous fat in your ass that makes your butt look big!"
