Not quite sure this belongs here, but all these forums seem to be pretty knowledgable so I'll give it a shot...

Just got a Cellular phone mono mic/headphone with a 2.5mm jack, and I'm wondering why there are no adapters available so I could plug it into my soundcard mic in and headphone 3.5mm plugs, then use it for internet telephony or maybe voice recognition, etc., since I don't want to buy a seperate headset for that.

Is there a technical reason it's infeasible, or could I build an adapter with Radio Shack goodies? I think the PC mic-in jack carries a small voltage to a PC mic, so is that the problem?

thanks...

My guess is that your little cell mic will also require some sort of phantom power, just like little computer mics. Most cheap multimedia and lapel mics are going to be electret.

There should be specs for the mic or phone somewhere that'll give you enough info. Then go check out the specs on some computer mics and see if they're similar enough.

After that, you might search radioshack's website for a cable or adapter.

OR, just buy a little headset for your computer...they might not be much more expensive than an adapter will be!
