Just a quick question...

Would you buy a used Mapex Venus series set for 300USD? Mind you, this will be my first set.

The only thing that is missing is the hi-hat stand. No other cymbals (except the 2 hi-hats) are included.

I have to let the seller know by this weekend, otherwise he's listing 'em on craigslist for 400.

So.....Should I?

Really? He is including the hats but not the stand? That's kind of bizarre. Is there any other hardware included (cymbal stands, pedals, etc...)?

Off hand, that seems to be an ok price (I wouldn't pay the $400 though). The Venus series is an adequate entry-level kit, but nothing too exciting.

I have a set of Mapex Venus series drums. Five piece kit. Remo Pinstripe heads on all toms. Aquarian Super Kick head on bass drum and Remo Powerstroke head on snare. Pearl P-100 fast kick pedal on bass drum. I do not have a drum throne or any cymbal stands or cymbals. I have a set of hi hats that will go with them but no hi hat stand. An old cowbell and a set of worn sticks will also be included. The heads are pretty worn but are playable. I did some trading for these drums and never really played them much. The former owner was in a band and used these to gig with. He removed all the coverings so they would have a natural finish and change colors under the stage lights. They could be recovered if you don't like the natural finish.

Thats basically all the info I have as of now. I haven't asked him any specifics yet, as I wanted to find out if the venus series were at least halfway decent.

I've been wanting a set for a while now, but could never find anyone selling any cheap.
