Around 15-23 years ago I recorded some tracks on my TASCAM 244 porta studio. One year ago I tried to listen to some of the numbers on the original 4 track tapes, but I found problems with disintergration of the rubber parts of the tape recorder. I changed the parts but other problems arose, and by some stupid accident I unfortunately destroyed the tonehead.
Now I consider buing a substitution, - originally another TASCAM 244, but after looking around I wonder if I could use some of the other double speed cassette tape recorders fron TASCAM using DBX for playing the tracks from my original TASCAM 244 so I can transfer the best parts to some digital formats on a computer.
My question is in other words if I could play my old TASCAM 244 tapes in same quality as on a TASCAM 244 on the following models
TASCAM 234
TASCAM 246
TASCAM 424 mk II
TASCAM 424 mk III
or perhaps even other models?
I look forward to hear any comments regarding possibilities and experiences regarding quality when you play 4 track TASCAM DBX-noise reductioned cassette tapes on other tape recorders than the original.
