Portastudio 788/ TMD1000 Mixer???

Is the Tascam TMD1000 mixer compatible with the Tascam Portastudio 788? If so, do you need a lot of equipment to make them work together? I was also wondering if a Roland VS-840GX digital studio would be a good choice for a beginner to digital recording. Would a Boss BR-8 studio or an Akai DPS12i digatal studio be good choices? WHAT SHOULD I GET?!?!?!?

If you purchased a TMD1000, you wouldn't need the Tascam 788.

You would connect the TMD1000 to your computer through a TDIF cable (and you would have to buy a soundcard with a TDIF connection).

The Roland, Boss, or Akai would be good for you if you wanted a "stand-alone" unit (I'd suggest the Roland but you would have a steep learning curve).
