i am thinking of investing a little bit in new recording equipment.
i would like to have a setup that i can easily move from one place to an other.
preferebly with laptop, and interface 8 in/out.
i got a small mixing desk.
any recommondations?

at the moment i'm using an old pro tools le.
with a old desktop pc... it's getting old and unstable...
but it basically does what i want.
i don't use virtual instruments, just mics and line input.

cheers.
great forum. only discovered it recently.

Will you honestly be recording eight separate inputs? How many Hi-Z, how many mic pres?

I've got a lexicon U82s, 8 very nice preamps for the money. Its compact and looks sexy too!!!

yes i really need 8 inputs, i do live recordings.
and
thanks vinny i will check that one out.

thanks wheelema
that might just be the tool i was looking for.
it's well under my budget... that's a plus too.
i'm gonna have a close look at that one.

I almost got the Zoom R16, but then I got the TASCAM M-164UF mixer with USB 2.0 Audio interface (16 channels) for a tad more. I'm liking it

That only has 6xXLR ins though.

Plus, with the all in one units like the zoom and the tascam, your pre's are going to be so low end.

I would seriously recommend just getting an interface.

The ZOOM pre's are very usable. Not going to knock you out, but not a penalty box either.

thanks for the link to the zoom forum, it's interesting.
i didn't see much complaints about the pre's there.
it generally seems to be great value for money.
