Porta-Booth Setup

Hello there!

I am new to this forum and new to recording! I am setting up a home studio to record audiobooks, and I have been hired by a legit company to do so. I was given many recommendations on which equipment to purchase and which programs to use, however I was hoping to get feedback on my current setup.

I built a porta-booth for under $50, using auralex foam and a whitmor cube, and this is helping out immensely! I am using the Apex 440 USB Studio Microphone, linked below, and a nice pop screen, and while the audiobook boss I work with says everything sounds great, I feel like there is still a little fuzziness. I feel the setup is inconsistent and sometimes sounds great, while other times, I get feedback and fuzz noises.

Any guidance or assistance would be appreciated! Thanks!

I say ditch the usb mic and invest in a nicer condenser and interface. you are getting paid for this no?

Yes, I am getting paid for this, but not until the work is done. The woman I work with says the usb mic is fine for now, and she actually told me to buy that one when I was setting up my recording studio in my home. This is not at all my day job...yet. I am just doing this on weekends and my evenings. I also see that the Apex 440 is a Class-A FET Cardioid Condenser Microphone with USB Output, so I thought it was good for the money.

Also, the porta booth is neat for when I travel for my actual day job. Has anyone ever heard of or used the porta-booth?
