just bought a cheap stereo micro-mixer: four inputs, left/right out which i tried running thru my tascam us 122. I'm using Cubase, so i tried recording each input to its own mono track. Every few seconds my sound is interrupted by a drop out or pop. Any idea as to why? It happened when I recorded both as a single stereo track too.

It could be a lot of different things. My first guess would be a driver issue. Another guess would be clocking problem (like either mis matched sampling rate or wrong device set as clock master).

Im using a 16 bit ASIO driver...thats okay right? Yeah i guess its something to do with the buffer rate...would taking down the latency help? How would i check the sampling rate versus clock?

Look at the settings of your soundcard. If the bit depth and sampling rate is adjustable, that's the first place to look to see what it's set at. And then your recording software. Its settings have to match that of the soundcard. And if the card has a digtal input as well as an analog, depending on what you're inputting, all of the above has to told who's the boss.

I switched back to tape because I was having problems with audio dropping out at low levels on Cubase. Is this what's happening to you? If so, it's all driver/soundcard related. I thought it might have been mic/mixer problems, but recording to tape doesn't yeild the same drop outs. Seems the audio driver has problems with very low sound levels. Hope this helps. I'd suggest an external sound card made with recording in mind.
