Popping sounds when pressing play?

Hello
I have a Tascam 414mkII, and this never used to happen, but recently, most of the times I press play, I hear a popping sound in the headphones, that shows up on track 4's meter. I've got a bad feeling that it might be recording some of them, because there's one point on one of my tapes where there's a whole jumble of popping sounds, although I'm not sure where exactly they came from.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is, and if I can fix it?
Thanks a lot

This has happened to me but only when I pressed the recording button. It got fixed by always using the punch pedal. Unluckily I don't have any tascam dealers where I live, so that's the only thing I could do.
Maybe the best thing to do, if possible, is to take it to a Tascam authorized repair shop to have it checked out.
Cheers!

Thanks, I'll see if I've got any Tascam dealers near me. I actually bought it new about a year ago, so there might be some warranty or something... I was actually recording stuff before, and the popping sometimes happens with the record and stop buttons too.

Try replacing the power supply module.

You may find a suitable generic pwr module at places like Walmart, (check voltage, amperage & polarity of the original module. There's even a genuine Tascam PS-P414 replacement power module for sale on Ebay, for only a little more cost than generic.

Polarity: Tip (-); Sleeve (+).
