I have noticed that after you record and you cut the song where noise is, it will make a crack or popping sound. To solve this I always only cut a track where there is virtually no noise and that eliminates unwanted noise. Also don't ever let your tower lay on carpet in the winter. Also turn off all flourescent lights in your house. It will cause a hum with crackles. A good sound card helps also. Now throw away the crappy $19.95 microphone and get a shure sm57 & 58 at least. Record with no effects...... Effects like distortion pedals will cause hisses and cracks. Just use the natural distortion that comes with your amp. If you need more add some after you record the track with you plugins
Just some help.

Or just make shure that every amp and piece of studio equipment is connected to earth (if you can).

A better soundcard ... a better microphone... Generally, better equipment makes the sound better, so there's no suprises here. ;)

Effects like distortion pedals will cause hisses and cracks
I can see the hiss, if you have bad guitar-mics and you're recording in front of monitors. But the pedal itself (if it's fully working and worth more than $10) shouldn't create cracks and pops, so there should be no difference using a pedal or your amps overdrive (I thought, at least).

I have a big problem with recording in front of my monitors. The ions from the monitors hit my guitarmics and make hell on earth. If I step out of the room, I get nice, 'clean' distorted sound. What can I do to prevent this.

But great tips! :)
To bad for me, I've allready done what I can to prevent earth-problems and such. Most pops- and crackles- problems is comming from the PC itself. Just do a search on these forums...

oops, I forgot headphones

Always record with headphones on and in the most quiet environment. No other noise. Monitor speakers off. Just the sound you're recording. I forgot to mention this on the other post. I record one instrument at a time, behind a looped drumbeat. Build you an isolation cabinet if you have any unwanted noise. Remember even your computer makes noise and it can be picked up.

Errr.... you are telling us some pretty obviously stuff here. Just wanted you to know that most of us do this...

Tips like these should be posted in the 'Newbies'-forum.

No offence, though... ;)
