Hi, I just finished recording my band's song, "Within Your Eyes," and have it uploaded to our website at vicinalmusic.com. When you follow the link, there is a music player that shows up on the right side, and the song in question is the second one listed. It still needs to be professionally mastered, so I'm just looking for critiques on the mixing/recording quality. Thanks! (Also, if you don't think there's anything to fix, I'd like to know that too!)

Good bones, nice mixing - but the song deserves more

I've listened to the song a few times and I like it - you have the great benefit of having a good AND distinctive voice. This song (in part because of the vocals) reminds me of Carbon Leaf which is a good thing in my book. Here are my suggestions (feel free to ignore anything I say):
1. every other line on the verse ends on a low note which sounds a bit awkward only because your voice doesn't seem to want to go there; you could either alter the line or I was thinking of maybe trading off the lines (not sure if there is another vocalist doing the backing/descant vocals I here) with the other vocalist and make his lines very different - maybe tweak his vocals so they sounds like they are coming out of little, cheap speakers... this would obviously change the tone of the song and make sound more produced rather than the kind of live-in-the-studio sound you have now so this may just be a matter of desired outcome too and the tone of your album overall
2. the guitar sounds could use a lot more power - try doing multiple tracks and using your effects to get a fatter sound on the chorus so it really soars
3. during the initial verse, I don't feel it needs any guitar at all; in the second verse, maybe some Hammond B3 organ chords with some some licks.
I think it could really be powerful. But, as I said, feel free to ignore this entirely and feel free to critique my stuff as heavily when i finally post some (my studio has been a kids room for two years and I've finally kicked him out)
