I'm using a Rode NTK for vocals and a Focusrite Voice Master Pro preamp. I had a pro engineer come over and do a mic check for me. He set all the levels on the Focusrite so that I don't have to deal with too many EQ/ compressor/ Expander etc. changes when going from 1 vocalist to the next. I have to say I am very impressed with the sound of the vocals. Very. Everything sounds fine except for the annoying PoP! on the "P" and the "B". I bought a Steadman metal pop filter to try to eliminate some of this pop, thinking it might do a better job than the nylon one I way using before. It didn't. I have the metal screen about 3 inches from the mic and I usually have the vocalist 6-8 inches from the screen. I'm thinking that maybe I should move the scren about 6-8 inches from the mic and have the vocalist stand 3 inches from the screen. Does anyone have any input? I'd appreciate it immenslely.

Hey, Alph,

I posted a similar question and was given a 12" rule of thumb. The pop is gust of wind hitting the diaphragm, I would guess, so moving back should eliminate it.

Better approach. Yeah the VMPro is killer sounding. Just give it plenty of air on top. It's Class A and gets very hot so it needs a lot of air. I keep mine low in the rack with 1 U of space on top.

yep

Totally agree. I am really impressed with the sound of the VMP. Especially considering the price. I tried moving the pop screen back away from the mic last night and it sounds much better now. Yes it does tend to generate a lot of heat. I also have it sepertated from my other gear with 1 rack space below it and nothing on top. At least I know if I can't find a lighter I can always light my cigar off the VMP.

Try both pop filters about 3" apart. There are some situations where you need 2.-Richie

You can also see what you can do with mic positioning. A lot of voiceover is done with the mic a little high and pointing down (picks up more chest resonances) and most broadcast work is done with the mic slightly to the side. The pressure cone of the p and b plosives is very narrow.
