I am getting a deep pop and lingering flutter from my mic. I narrowed it down to the mic by eliminating other things till all that was left was the mic and the sound was still there.

I am using a Rode N3 and running direct to the mixer with OK pre's. I am also using a little compression with the Alesis 2630 (I know, I know).

What is the most likely place that this annoying pop may be originating from? At first I thought maybe the phantom power surging or something. It pops a couple of times in a row then will settle down for a minute or so then pop some more.

Sure is annoying.

Thanks for the help in advance guys and gals!

Pop and flutter? Must be a tape mic...hehe.

Actually, is sounds like a voltage problem with the phantom power (too much, not enough, or a short).

Have you performed a continuity check on the cable?

Always start with the easy stuff first.
