I didn't have any trouble with my US122.

It's a great box with a lot of very useful features. I like having the various controls outside the PC, and the little tuner thing is handy. The pres seem OK.

I think that if TASCAM put this box on a firewire interface, or with a PCI card, they'd have something outstanding. The only complaint I see here is getting the USB up and running.

I recorded the song in my signature line with my US122.

if your gonna buy the 122 might as well save a little more money and get the 428

I bought it...and was frustrated with latency problems...until i read somewhere that in order to avoid skipping...you should lower the buffer rate...

which i found to be extremely counter-intuitive...
i guess it all depends on what you are trying to record...i like it because it has phantom power and you can record two tracks at once...but...i am about to upgrade...so...i guess it only is good for so long.

I was also looking @ the us-428 but it doesn't have mic pre amps built in. My needs are only to record one track at a whack. The 122 seems to be ideal... just a built in EQ and I would be happy.

It just depends on what other equip you have or plan to buy the reason why I like the 428 so much is because I have done/and still do some engineering in a pro studio so I like mixing with my hands and the 428 gives you that same feel almost like the mackie I use in the studio

It's a cool little box!!

Hey I've been using the Us-122 for about a week and a half now, I like it personally, but it might not be for you. It depends on how much you're planning on recording at once, what kind of computer/software you will be using and stuff like that. Personally though, the price was right for me, and it's very simple to use (I use it with Logic on a 500 mhz mac) and it sounds good =).

Hope it helps.

Oh and yes I've recorded an acoustic with a condensor/dynamic on the left and right mic ins and it sounds good, check out apl's song too!

I have recorded accoustic with the us-122, its a bit heavy on the low end though. Otherwise it works really good. a lot of that can be fixed by tweaking the eq after its cut. Anyone have any ideas? And it does have a built in pre-amp because it is phantom powered. Possible a pre eq?

Using the right microphone and placing it carefully will solve your 'too much low' problem.

And yes, the US-122 does have a mic preamp in it, two in fact, but neither have any EQ --- I'm not quite sure from the way your question is phrased if you're asking if it's ok to put an EQ into the mic preamp, but if that is what you're asking the answer is that if you use the right mic placed correctly you should not need any corrective EQ at all.

Although the US122 does not have EQ, you can either get that done in your software, or use an external EQ in the insert loop. The insert loop is a cool feature that is not found on a lot of other equipment in the US122's price range.
