A quick poll to see if Andy (MCI2424) should be banned again. Cast your vote and let the chips fly. Oh, Might as well as make a comment for or against.

Not as bad as when being convicted without a trial at all, I suppose.Tim Gillett said:If you were "the accused' how would you feel?

Framing the question that way, even raising at all, puts all the focus on him and not on the other half of the question which is one Timothy Beck, long time member of this forum.
It's like leading questions in a court like, "when did you stop beating your wife?"
A fair and impartial poll would mention both people equally and thereby present the issue impartially. You've already twisted and prejudiced the issue before we start. Dont you have any understanding of fair procedure and due process? If you were "the accused' how would you feel?
evm, as a senior member of this forum and of society, shouldnt you know better? Did somebody put you up to this?
Try reframing the discussion in fair and impartial terms and we might have a chance of a fair and impartial discussion.
Someone could post a similar thread entitled "should Tim Beck be banned?" and of course there would be outrage, probably justifiably.

On this BBS, at least, people are banned for spamming and for making grossly offensive racial/sexual references in the normal forms outside of the Cave though mostly its the spamming that will do it most quickly.
If there are people here you disagree with, just do your best to ignore them or put them on your ignore list in your User CP. Anything beyond that is pretty juvenile.
For the record, I don't mind MCI2424 or anyone else who comes here to this forum...there's so few of us analog enthusiasts left at this point that I find it really silly to drive people away from here and threads like this one tend to do that.

Ghost and Golden…
I respect your opinions and input as always but…
First of all the issue is not about legitimate differences of opinion when it comes to MCI. It’s about a member pushing and provoking conflict for sport... a need born out of a festering self-inflicted wound that he blames some of us for. Short of that his greatest priority is image maintenance, and thus he will continue to attack and try to impeach knowledgeable, discerning members until the only members left are those that will buy into his charade. The olive branch has been tried by many, including me… he’s not interested.
Your perspective is fine if you are only concerned with how the forum impacts you. Part of the difference in our perspectives is that I have always had a big brother personality… no not big brother as the government, but big brother as in “Leave my little brother/sister alone or I will kick your ass.”
We may like to participate in discussions here because of our backgrounds in recording and fondness for analog, but many come here knowing almost nothing. New members don’t know who to put on their ignore list, or who to listen to and not listen to.
You may also see MCI as a legitimate analog enthusiast, in which case IMO you are among the few that he has successfully mislead. Your image of him is the one he has presented, so the biggest problem you see with him is that he’s a “Pro” on a home recording forum. When in fact he is a phony. Being a phony is not a capital offence on the web if only that were all, but add to that his wanton attacks on other members, including you over several years and… well, that’s a problem. However, IMO it’s a bigger problem when a community doesn’t respond.
Because of the things that have made us the people we are we don’t see the situation with the same eyes. I am still extraordinarily idealistic for my age and the things I’ve seen “Doctor my Eyes.” and perhaps try to make this forum more than it is… or do I? Again, it’s a matter of perspective.
This to me is a place as any other place… like in the old days where we would get together in person and discuss our interests in a club or pub or what have you.
If this is a community there is going to be a criminal element and crime statistics, even if that is only someone toilet papering your trees (figuratively speaking). But some are much more mean spirited and do greater harm than you think. Because they do no great harm to you is not a good enough reason to ignore them.
There is a fine line between live and let live and “"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
You may be peacemakers or you may just not care, I dunno. Those two things can be easily confused. You may also have thicker skin, but that is a double-edged sword… you aren’t as vulnerable to mean-spirited trolls, but you may also be insensitive to those that are.
Your peacemaking sentiment is admirable only if it comes from a position of strength, sensitivity and a feeling of responsibility to the communities, Internet or otherwise, that you choose to be a part of. Indifference is none of these things.
You may feel the way you feel because you, me and about everyone else here has gone off at one time or another… you don’t feel able to cast a stone. I can understand that, but this is not “One of us” having a bad day… this is an individual that has consistently returned again and again as his user accounts are banned, to attack and sabotage the good work done here.
He is a power rapist that thinks himself abused when his victim has the nerve to fight back and scratches his face. He only sees his own blood and feels his own pain.
The town folk in a Clint Eastwood western that walk about with their heads down ignoring the town bullies aren’t peacemakers. Nor are the helpless future people in Orson Welles “The Time Machine.” They are people that don’t believe they have power to affect change in their circumstances and those of their neighbors, and in both stories don’t know that they should care about their neighbor’s circumstances. And just as in real life the one that does care about his neighbor’s circumstances is seen as the unreasonable rebel rouser. Art imitating life, to be sure.
In the social sciences we say, “You are who you talk to.” Perhaps we are partly the product of the movies we’ve seen, and hopefully we relate and connect to the right characters. Seen any good ones lately?
I’m afraid in the case of MCI he must have watched “Dirty Harry” (Or as I call it, “The feel good movie of 1971”) and found his soul mate in this guy…
Hi Tim G.
I did think about putting it that way but did not want to get into a Tim back vs Andy competition. My poll is addressing Andy's posting habits and the general feeling of the folks who care to vote. Life is not fair, impartial or scientific and neither is this poll.
I had thought that I would post a Beck banning poll in a few days but I think that you should be the author of that. (No I'm really serious, it would be an interesting poll)
Regards
PS In a court of law they do start by saying that the accused is guilty of vile things and that they are going to prove that to the jury....
