Pod vs sansamp for bass guitar

I would use the sansamp bass driver DI. Unless you want all those silly effects on bass. If you want good clean bass or even a little overdriven Thats the one I would use

I do not own a POD--I own a Sansamp Bass Driver. That says it all.

I own a Pod. Wish I had the SansAmp.

Can't seem to find a good use for the Pod...some recording uses but haven't found it useful yet for live gigs. I just have not been satisfied with the sound to the amplifier.

But, admittedly, I have yet more to learn on it and need to experiment much much more with it. Much love,

Another vote for the SansAmp. The Pod's digital modelling really does nothing good for a bass sound. The SamsAmp is a real, actual analog preamp. It gives you plenty of control and lets the natural sound of the bass come on through clearly.

But, did anyone mention the SansAmp? ...oh yeah... check out the SansAmp! I run my bass thru the PSA-1...it always sounds awesome to me.

I've got an original SansAmp that works wonders for both bass and guitar. I use it for Bass DI and on guitar scratch tracks.

I buddy owns a Pod XT Live and I fiddled with it for a few hours... and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

So... I guess I'd be unique and go with the SansAmp. :D

i have a Ampeg head..can i go into that and run it out into my Delta 44? how would that sound..would it be just as good a Sansamp? or even better since its a Ampeg?

eh... ive found that most DI outs on most bass amps tend to suck. but give it a shot, you might as well if you already have it! and if it doesnt get you what you want, go for a sansamp.

Bass Driver

Sansamp Bass Driver will serve you well. I have one and it works great with bass and el. guitar. Geddy Lee from Rush has Sansamp RBI (rackmount version of Bass Driver) in his rack.

Guitar PODxt /w latest firmware 3.01 (3 or 4 days old) has a Sansamp Bass Driver emulation, plus the ability to buy a bass model pack for $99 which basically has all the stuff from Bass PODxt.

Not an answer to your question, but the info might be interesting to someone.

Sans-Amp, hands down. PODs, in my experience, are unreliable, and the sound isnt as clean As I would like it to be. I used a Sans-Amp and a Distresser for my last recording session and had some great wamr, punchy sounds on the bass.

Wow....the POD's are trying to emulate SansAmp Bass Drivers....now I've heard everything! POD = emulated preamp. SansAmp = real preamp. Should be pretty obvious which will be more natural :)

Another vote for the Sansamp Bass DI. Besides it sounding killer every time, it's small and super simple to operate & can be used strictly as a uneffected DI in a pinch (if I remember right)

"may I venture a NEITHER?

not unless you mention an alternative. :)

Well, I have used the direct outs on some high end bass amplifiers from David Eden, SWR, Kustom, etc.... and from my experiences with those amps, the sansamp is definately a worthy and appreciated tool to have around (read: the "tone" acquired from the direct outs was either decidedly digital or wimpy).

However, I, of course, have not been an audio engineer for 20 years, etc and have not tried every single bass amp direct out... so of course, ymmv.

My advice: look for a used Sansamp bass driver on Ebay and get one for a good price. Test it out. If you dont like it? sell it back.

good luck!
