The one thing the Bass Pod has that sets itself apart is the LA-2A compressor model. The LA-2A is "the standard" in high-end studios for bass guitar and you hear it on many of the best bass recordings. It's just one knob on the Bass Pod like the real thing, just so easy to use.
I think I agree with Tom Hicks on recording bass with these things, I can't tell it's not a real miked amp. I can't be fooled so easily with 6-string guitar amp modelers, especially with exposed lead sounds.
