POD as pre-amp

Sounds like you need phantom power more than a preamp. Here's one that's not too expensive. As far as using the POD ... not sure how you could as it only accepts line level. But, someone here has probably tried it at some point and can comment on it.

Good Luck

You're going to need Phantom power for the NT1. Try the AudioBuddy From MIDIMAN. It's about $100 and works as a good mic preamp. Also, the little 6-channel Behringer mixers are a steal at $79 at Guitar Center. These little mixers share the same mic preamps as Behringers Larger professional mixers.

I think we need a gain shoot-out as well as the great cable shoot-out that Ed gave us.
This would be a lot more objective as it would use the same mic in the same spot hearing the same signal and would be measured fed through a variety of cheap (<$100USD) pres and the output would be compared at three positions:

1) as much cut as can be applied to the pre
2) no cut no gain: unity gain setting
3) as much gain as can be applied to the pre

Only one subjective rating needs to be added. The range of values that constitute the best usable range of each pre.
This so shoppers could apply some data to their pre-amp purchasing decisions balancing the available gain against quality determinations obtained elsewhere.

I would see it as a really bad idea using your pod to power a Rode NT-1. The sound will not be half as good as using a proper pre amp for a mic. The POD as you know if aimed at guitar pre amps so the gain structure is different.
