I was thinking about buying the Pod 2.0 over the V-amp 2 but there was one thing that kind of pisses me off. Supposedly you can only access a certain amount of amps and effects, without going into midi. I don't know too much about MIDI, but I know it involves the computer, and my studio is nowhere near a computer, and it sounds like a hassle. Is there any kind of solution? Did Line-6 every release any kind of chip or something where you can add this stuff without having to go through MIDI?

The POD 2 allows you to get to all the amp models and effects from the panel.

Never heard that before. I use a POD, and I can access all of the functions from the panel too. Go check one out.

You can't access all the features from the front panel. Yes, the sounddiver software used to program the POD is a pain in the ass to use. However, you'll probably find that the two extra amp models (or whatever) and the extra control over effects, A.I.R., and amp/cabinet settings really don't need to be used very often.

What I personally find irritating about the POD and similar designs, is the lack of motorized knobs. They should have either used a purely digital panel, or motors. It's a real bitch when you suddenly realize that the settings your seeing aren't what you're hearing, and you have to go through and give everything a little twist.

If you have any kind of computer with a soundcard and midi port it is well worth the hassle.

You have much greater control of over the effects parameters and its a great way to backup files and create patch libraries. Being able to download other patches over the internet is cool also. You can even play them as you browse them with one click.

Actually, you can access all the amps and cabs from the front panel on the POD 2.0. I have version 1.3, so I'm stuck using sounddiver... which I think is great, especially since I can also program all my other MIDI devices from it...

The only things you can't do on the Pod 2.0 without sounddiver are have real control over the effects and adjust the AIR amount.
