Between being and nothing
Hello all!

It's good to be back...I hope.

Anyway, I've been off music (as well as these music boards) for the past year or so (not that anyone cares), due to some personal situations, as well as a day job that was totally kicking my ass. Since I'm now in a less stressful situation (for the time being, anyway), I've taken babysteps toward recording again.

I've been composing and "recording" tunes on my new Dell Axim, Pocket PC, transferring the wave files to my desktop, doing a "quick mix" using Audacity, and posting them on my music blog.

Said Music Blog.

I had been trying to look for a program that can effectively mix files on the Pocket PC, however, no dice. And the hubster has threatened divorce if I even thought about whipping out my CC on any more music equipment (such as this Fostex MR-8 I had my eye on). :D

Anyway, I just want an opinion as to whether these songs (the top three ones) are worth pursuing or gussying up. Yes, the production sucks, yes my vocals are off here and there. I'm looking for singalongability, lyrical enjoyment, chordstructure, etc.

Mabye I'm in the wrong forum...I dunno.

Shakey,
I can't get to your stuff.
I get an error message "Stack Overflow at Line 54" or some such nonsense.
Could you check this and perhaps repost?
Cheers

Thanks peritus - that's sooo much easier.
Helen,
I like your lyrics, melodies & phrasing you do need a recording format that will do them justice. Buy a cassette 4 track at the 2nd hand store or something.
I had a bit of a Laurie Anderson (pre hooking up with Uncle Lou) image in my mind in terms of soundscape. I wouldn't change the arrangements so much as the instrument voices & recording.
Be at it woman.
Cheers

Yeah the second link went somewhere else entirely.
But thanks anyway for going to the trouble.

I fixed it... lol I forgot ".mp3"

If wanna see the others... Open her source code and seach for ".mp3" ... Then paste the link in the browser and hit Go..

Hey Shakey.... It'd be cool to collab with ya... I like your Ashes song... Maybe you could send me a wav of just the vocals and the BPM (I could figure this part out.. But tellin' me would be easier)...

What I would do is mimic your arrangement but substitute instrumentation... Also, I'd probably be tempted to add some...

Lemme know what you think... Listen to some of my stuff for what to expect.. May I recommend the one called "A Depressed Record Spinning"?

Thoughts?

Hey guys!

Thanks for the feedback. I figured recording on a Pocket PC was a dud. I'm also kind of disappointed with the instruments on the PPC software, but I'm guessing I need to play with it some more. I've got better software, of course, on the PC. I've just been too overwhelmed/lazy/whatever excuse to play with it right now. These are just sketches anyway. I'm probably going to change out the synths in "Ashes" with a piano, or something.

Speaking of which...

Peritus, I've listened to a couple of tracks off your soundclick page, and I likees! So sure, I'd love to collab. I've got some family issues to take care of this week, but I'll redo the vocals and email them to you some time next week, if ok?

What BPM would you think this song would work in? I'm thinking of speeding it up, myself...

Thanks for the positive response! I think the speed is fine... There are tricks with percussion to give the perception of speed... However, how you want it, is how you should make it... Just post here when ya ready to connect...

P.S. Have you ever heard A Perfect Circle? I think you might like a few of their songs.. They're similar, at least in musical direction...

Cool deal... Have a good week!

thank you! Same to you. And thanks for the help with the reposting. :)

HELEN!!!!!

How ya doin? I can only get "The love song I never wrote for you" to play. Sounds good for what it is. I've always enjoyed your vocal style as ya know and like Peritus I'd love to get my hands on some of your work and give it a propper prduction. Maybe you two could collab on the music and I could mix it or something. I've made a few BIG changes to the studio since the last time our paths crossed..... kinda cost me my soul mate in the process but she didn't have all these pretty flashing and blinking lights so, fair deal I say. :D

Anyway, it's good to see an old face from the indie mp3 revolution. If I was you I'd risk the divorce and buy that MR-8 ;) Really is great to hear from you

Alec

Sounds good to me... I've only recently started getting serious about my mixing...

At the moment I'm transcribing the music... For BPM, I've got somethin' just a touch over 65????

By the way... I'm embarrased to admit.. But I'm having trouble with the chord progression... If you happen to know it off the top of your head or could send a midi file.. That'd be awesome.. lol... Don't do much reverse engineering these days and that synth masks some of tones, it seems.. Thanks!

Here's what I got for the first four bars containing synths or strings... It can't be right...

First four bars

Main Chords....Am-C-Am-G-G-E
Bass notes...........G..E...E..D.B

Any good helpers out there in forum land?

Seeing as how I was way off.. Maybe the midi would be best... ;) .. If you could, please send the file to peritu307@yahoo.com.. That would be cool...

Thanks,
Joshua

Here's one...

Hey Shakes!!!!

You gotta work on the vocal phrasing on the long phrase in this one; you're running out of air girlie! :)

This ain't bad for pocket PC... There's a pretty good 4-track program on PocketGear you can get...

Where's you get this freaklike lyric writing ability? I always hated you for that... :)
