Okay... Awhile back, I posted an original song with myself singing lead, and in one of the comments, our own Joe Mizzi said he'd be interested in trying out vocals.

I, of course would have been the village idiot to not let him give it a shot, and a shot he certainly gave.

Here's the new version of my song "Keep Fallin' Down" featuring Joe Mizzi, not only on vocals, and backup vocals, but on guitar as well. He created a heckuva nice solo, and other guitar parts throughout.

It's pretty much the best song on the planet now. I'm would be rich off of the proceeds, but I'm gonna give all the money to Joe.

Keep Fallin' Down

All general comments are welcome, but I think I might be going crazy, hearing some slight distortion during a few parts. Anyone getting a slight distortion that isn't coming from the guitars, sporadically?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

**Edit** - Updated mix here. Found the offending clipping tracks, and re-tracked them.

Mix sounds great to me, Jason!
It was a pleasure to help you out on this one. It's got the kind of blues-rock feel I love.:)

Joe does appear to be in stereotype busting form this year.
I remember the original &, Jason, your vocal was/is a credible performance.
Mr. Mizzi's pipes are in good form on this.
His expressive style does make this more effecting & give it more impact.
I heard some slight distortion type sounds around some essing but it was probably just the essing.
Terrific collaboration - downloaded & stored in my Hits of the HR Era folder.

It's nice to finally hear your drums with some presence and personality. New snare sounds great. Whatever you did for your drums in this mix, keep doing it. Joey's vocals sound great, as always. That guy can sing an upside down chinese menu and it would sound awesome. The whole mix is overall pretty good. The bass gtr may be a little too overpowering in the low bottom end. It's very squashed and pumpy though. I'd like to hear it with the limiting backed off a little.

It sounds really, really good to me. I don't know if this makes sense, but I like how the mix sounds like it's not trying too hard. Everything is sounding great in it's own space, and everything is clean and separated nicely. I hear a couple of little bits of distortion/clipping out in the extreme stereo edges, it sounds like maybe it's the overdriven guitar part, but I'm not 100% sure, it doesn't happen very often, and it might just be me. Overall, I think the mix is really great, it's very easy to listen to and enjoy. I love Greg's comment about Joe's voice sounding good on anything, even an upside down Chinese menu, and I agree :D

Great work!

Sounds great guys! I liked the song before Jason, and your vocals fit well. But, like you have now experienced, when I give a song to Joe I know that when he's finished with it, it will sound like it was meant to sound - the sound I hear in my head/heart but won't come out of my freakin' mouth! It might have something to do with the fact that he's been singing professionally for 30+ years (I have to remind myself of this when I'm hating on my crappy, inexperienced voice).

Anyway - great mix, great guitar playing here (gotta be hard to play such a clean tone) and I too think I heard some clipping early on - might have been on the first b/u vox.

Awesome job guys - :):D:cool:

It looks like I'm gonna be writing a whole lot more "blues-rock" type of songs... ;) I wouldn't be adverse to a whole friggin' album :D

Thanks, Ray. Can't stop grinning.

That snare kills it, bro. Also, due to the type of song this is, the reverb on the whole drum kit is pretty thick. Other than that, I didn't do too much differently as far as drums go. Also - the bass isn't limited, but it does have a bit o' compression. I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks for the kind words, Greg!

Thank you, Brad! ...and yes... I agree. It was nothing short of an honor to collab with Joey. He's right up there with Geoff Tate, IMO.

Thanks, Dave. I'm gonna revisit the mix and see where that clipping is coming from. I'm using an entirely new DAW software, and mastering stuff is going through a bit of a learning curve.

Thoroughly enjoyed that :)

Thanks, dude! Glad you liked it.

.

I meant the whole mix, not the bass. Sorry for the confusion. The whole mix is pumpy and brickwalled pretty hard it seems.

Gotcha. That makes more sense, and yeah... I'm still learning this new software for mastering. I'm probably gonna end up re-mixing it all due to this, and the clipping. Thanks again.

sounds brilliant

really clean and clear, I liked the drums on the original and Joes vocals and cool solo add to a perfect storm...er i mean song

if your studio is looking for a purchase I read amazing things about steven slates Fgx compression/limiter for rock and pop..and I mean fantastic reviews...didnt work so well on dance stuff and too rich $$$ for me, but thats not what it was designed for i think..give the demo a try, it might be for you..

FG-X Virtual Mastering Processor - Steven Slate Digital

again nice job Jason...should stick this in the original song comp so more folks outside here hear it

Thanks for the suggestion on the Slate stuff. I'll take a look at it. Also - There's a competition? I'd love to enter a competition... Where do I find it?

Submitted. Thanks for the idea, Keith.

Great job guys ! I liked the original version too. Great vocals and guitar added Joe. The mix sounds good to me - not familiar with mastering so I'll let you guys work that out.

"Chop suey lock 'n loll, velly nice.....yeah, yeah"!
:p:D

Thanx for the nice comments guys. I hope me and Jason do more and who knows, maybe a couple of you could contribute too.....;)

Quality. I agree with Greg's analysis re the "pumping" effect, but the performance is great - it certainly deserves a remastering. :)

Cool tune. Joey's a monster. Po, that's the best drum sound I've heard from you.
