I agree with Scrubs....I dont know of any reason to HATE PMI....but PMS on the other hand....i mean come on....anything that bleeds for a week and dont die is not to be trusted....

I don't hate PMI at all!!! I've met Alan and Justin Hyatt and Brent Casey. Those are some great guys!! Anyone who has a problem with them doesn't know them!!

The search function of this board is a fantastic thing. If someone is unable to figure out how to use that for most answers they will probably not be able to figure out.......
Is this opinion elitest? Hell no. The search function will reveal most everything you would want to know about........ The kind professionals who contribute to this board have revealed all many times over. Do your homework, use your brain power and thank them for sharing their experience.

 ...............................

I was hoping that people who DON'T like PMI would post on this.

hhmmmm...maybe there are less of those people than you thought????

why dont you tell us why YOU hate PMI??? Do you need the support of so many others to justify your own feelings??? Can you not HATE PMI all by your self??? I mean...look at Scrubs...he hates trolls...but you dont see him starting threads trying to find out why everyone else hates trolls with out first finding out IF anyone else hates trolls...trolls are cool with me man...PMI is too...:p

Looks like you're the only one, now that DJL isn't around.

If you don't like the topic don't read this thread.

I dont have a problem with the topic...you asked a question....and we are all answering...I think YOU just dont like the answers you are getting....now... who's problem is that???

LONG LIVE PMI!!!!

ALAN HYATT FOR PRESIDENT!!

:)

I have nothing against PMI. To you Einsteins that assumed I did... and gave me negative rep for this thread... I'll consider whether to do the same for you. It would certainly make a dent in your badge collection. This user name is an alias.
My purpose here is to figure out why a few people seem to dislike them so much. Anyone?

Riiiiiight. So you started an off-topic thread under an assumed name, and you want us to play along???

Go on then, I'll play. Hit me with some negative rep from your own 'badge collection', and we can talk more. :)

first of all...i really couldn't give 2 shits about reps....although I did give you bad rep points....at least I will sign them....next, If you have nothing against PMI, then why would you bother to start this dumb ass thread...This is the first i have heard about anyone not liking them and to be honest, dont care weather anyone does or not...and again...if you have nothign against them...then why give a f*@k?

Yo Nonfat, or whover you may be. I didn't give you bad rep, nor do I intend to. I think it is generally agreed that PMI's products are competitive in their price range, and I have had personal experience with their customer support, which is flat out excellent.
Alan Hyatt, the CEO of PMI, has been criticized, rightly or wrongly, for his marketing and management style, and for alledgedly using misleading or deceptive descriptions of his products, particularly on this board, and his posts were labeled as spam by a few frequent posters. One of them, DJL, carried this to extremes, with character assasination, insinuation, and outright attempts to push Alan's buttons, often getting personal. There were others who were more restrained, but still saw Alan's posts as more helpful to himself and his business than the posters he was responding to.
As to the truth of it, just do a member search on DJL, and read his posts for the last year or so before he was banned. That should give you some insight into people who really do dislike Alan. That's the thing- it was never PMI that was hated, it was Alan, and by extension, anyone who defended him or his business practices. I myself consider Alan a friend, and I believe that his contributions here more than make up for any comments he makes that might have been seen as promoting his products. I'm always happy to see his posts, and Justin's or Brent's as well. Usually they are just trying to help some guy who has a question or a problem with one of PMI's products.
For the record, I think DJL was an otherwise OK and often helpful guy, who just couldn't let go of his obsession with Alan. There are others who have problems with Alan's business model, but DJL was the only one that went crazy about it, and got personal. He never bothered me except when he implied things that he did not state openly, and which were thinly veiled personal attacks on Alan. Read his posts, and you'll see what I mean. That's my spin on it.- Richie

Good spin. That's kinda how it is. I would say one thing though - every time you load this forum there's an advert at the top of it. I don't notice them any more, but they're there. They bring me the benefit of this forum being financially viable (more or less). Alan's posts may well talk up the equipment he designs, manufactures and promotes, but they bring the benefit of his genuine recording insight, plus of course the extension of availability of customer service to the point that some people don't even need to contact PMI themselves to have their problems solved.

I weigh it up and it still looks like a good deal to me. :)

Coming into this thread rather late, I haven't (yet) purchased a product from PMI, however I found Alan to be very helpful when I sent him a query regarding a function on a Joemeek unit I was curious about. Given he's the manager of the company, and he answered the question himself, I'd say that's a pretty bloody big tick for PMI.

The gear also seems to be very sound [no pun intended] for the price.

No negative feedback from this little black duck!
