Apparently the plugins that come with Nuendo 3 sound horrible, even the most basic ones, which I wasn't expecting. So, I'm trying to figure out which basic plugins I should get. All I want is a good EQ, compression, reverb, delay, and limiter, just one of each. I keep looking at some that I used back in school but we used Pro Tools there and all the plugins that I remember liking seem to be RTAS. I was hoping to at least be able to use Bomb Factory or something, but go figure, Digidesign bought them. So any suggestions on what you like for plugins?

Any of the URS EQs sound great. Some people like the Voxengos, but I'm personally not a fan.

You say 'apparently' meaning you haven't even tried them yet.

Try them before asking for advice here.

Find out exactly what you like or don't like and then ask for advice about specific categories.

The plugin market is crowded and getting more crowded every day with more and more good sounding plugins --- you could also try downloading some demo versions and see how they suit you...

Try www.kvraudio.com ;)

GlaceVerb is free and is one of the best-sounding reverbs I've used. "Room Machine" is also good if you just want ambience.

MasterComp is a pretty decent compresser.

As for delay, take your pick. There must be thousands of free ones all over the net.

Thanks for the quick replies so far, I'll try some of those out. I forgot to mention that I could also use a decent noise gate if anyone knows of one.

Uhh, I said "apparently" meaning I got Nuendo, tried to use some of the plugins on a mix, and they sounded horrible. Nothing gave me a natural transparent sound even when using just small adjustments. And the fact that the plugin market is extremely crowded is exactly the reason that I'm asking people what they use.

Sooo, yeah, refer to the old 'assume' proverb before trying to make me look like a lazy ass.

some of the nuendo plugins do sound like garbage but i think reverb a and roomworks is sick
