Plug-Ins taking up too much processing power

hello, guys.

I was just wondering if you use software plug-ins or outboard ones. Whenever I try to run 3 or more Waves plug-ins, my computer slows down alot. SO, I started to wonder how people deal with this issue. Do you bounce tracks? Do destructive processing in wav editing programs, then send your tracks back to your sequencer? or you just buy outboard processer since they are mostly better anyways?
If you use outboard stuff, can you use sound-diver or something to make them work like a software plug-in in your sequencer, but have the processing done outboard?

ps. I am asking cuz I have heard that POD Pro can be triggered in Sonar like a software plug-in.

You pretty much answered your own questions. All of the options you state will work. Another option is getting a faster PC.:D

well...i guess I did list most of the options, lol.

but, I am looking into option with outboard gears. I haven't heard a bounch about outboard processors besides preamp and soundcard here. I am wondering where the outboard processor go in the signal chain. Of course you want to record dry onto your PC. Then what? Send them digitally to your processor while sequencing? If so, how?

thanks

When I want to use an outboard processor, I send the track(s) out of one sound card output and back in on another making sort of a loop. Of course you have to have a card with multiple ins and outs. I'm running a dual pentium motherboard with 1 gig processors and 1 gig of memory and 2 SCSI drives so I rarely do this, but there are times when you want that "special" effect that you just can't get with any software.
