I've got the problem with the DMAN 2044 and a PCI ESS card. I've decided to take out the ESS, becuase it gives me a configuration problem and I'd like to stick it in the other PC I have anyway.

So when I boot up my PC again, it does not want to believe that I've taken out the ESS. In stead, it says that the DMAN is an ESS and then it promps that it is installing the ESS driver, which it is not, because the PC freezes and I have to reboot. The only way I can get any further into Windows, is by starting it in safe mode. I tried to remove almost everything in the device manager, but to no avail. On reboot, the PC again recognises the DMAN as an ESS.

Can I do anything to solve this problem, else but doing a Windows format?

Plse help.

Hello Pete,
You might have tried this, but maybe there is something you can do if you leave the ess card in the computer, but change its IRQ. I believe that at the back of the dman manual there is a section that talks about IRQ conflicts and changing them. You could also try leaving the card in, and just dissabling anything that has to do with the ess card. I'm not real sure the best way to go on this, and you may have tried these suggestions, but I do think that the manual says something about IRQ problems in the back. They also have a tech support that will try to help online, but it usually takes a few days to get a reply back. I'm having problems with one of their delta soundcards driver I think, so I'm kind of in the same boat, although it is working, just not that good. Good luck.

Yes I've tried the suggestions in the manual, but it did not solve my problem. Anyway, I think I might have to re-install WIndows. Fortunately, I haven't got too much on my hard drive, so it won't take ages to get up and running again.

I wonder what the chances are of starting a midiman forum? It might be informative and theire is certainly a lot of questions I want to ask about the DMAN, for instance, someone told me that although it has a DSP on it, Windows actually does not ues it. Insead the CPU does all the work. IS this really true?

Pete, try this:

Go into the control panel and remove all of the drivers associated with both cards. Then turn your machine off. Now remove both cards and reboot. Turn off the machine again and re-install the DMAN 2044 card. Now re-install the drivers. This has worked for me. I think the 2044 really likes IRQ 5. If you're looking for a card to complement it with a wavetable synth, most of them will also want IRQ 5 and will not allow you to manually change the IRQ. I've had this problem with cheap cards. However, I hear the SoundBlaster Live Value (about $50-60) will take whatever IRQ is available. I've also read that it has the same wavetable synth as the LIVE Platinum (which is supposed to be pretty good, although I havn't heard it yet).
