Plug a guitar into my PC?

Is it possible to record an electric acoustic guitar from some kind of direct input into a PC? If so what kind of software/hardware would I need?
 
There's no issue with software as you can use any that does recording when you ask it to. What you need is some sort of preamp. A lot of people swear by Line6's POD for direct recording but it really depends on the of music you play. If you play it clean without any hint of overdrive or distortion, a POD may be an overkill, look out for some nice clean preamp. Heavy Metal head bangers will go for the Johnson JStation instead. That's my opinion and I'll leave this for others to comment.
 
If you just want to go in with a straight acoustic sound without any effects or anything then look into the Art MP preamp ($99). It should be just fine if that's what you're wanting to do.
