Hi

Sorry for the dumb question. I have a Behringer UB1222FX-Pro mixer, power amp and a set of passive speakers. I know how to connect them for rehearsals.

We have a gig where we need to get powered speakers instead, so we do not need to use the power amp.

With just the mixer in use, where do I plug in the powered speakers into the mixer? At the moment, I do not know whether the powered speakers comes with XLR or 1/4 jack plugs. Apart from the mics, my accoustic guitar will go straight into the mixer.

I have checked the user manual but the guide is not clear enough with powered PA speakers.

I also have one powered fold back which I do not know where to plug in too.

Thanks for your help.

The same way you do now...

It's an unamplified signal going to an amplifier. It's the amplification method that's changed, not the signal.

It would be a really good idea to find out what connections your gig powered speakers have, however most will have XLR ins, and your mixer has XLR outs.

As to the monitor... depends if it's got the same mix or not and whether that mix is stereo or not - you can often daisy chain a wedge from a powered speaker, but if you've got a stereo mix happening you're only going to get one side. Otherwise I assume you have a monitor out/send on your mixer.. use that. It's probably a TS socket, however.

.

So that would then be the Main Out connectors on the mixer. We use the main Out connector to the power amp for our passive speakers, so for active speakers they go in the Main Out, correct?

Correct.

Chances are about 99% that your powered speakers will have either XLR or quarter inch TRS inputs. I just carry a box of adaptors with me that lets me use either (and a bunch of other things to--hopefully--handle the 1% as well).

Yep, the difference is that the power amplifier is now attached to the speaker itself, and there are two of them. As Bobbsy says, prepare for all eventualities with cables.

I will say that it's unusual for a gig to have speakers and not have a mixer as well, however..

Nah. I just send them to an ice cream tub in the bottom of a cable box. A guillotine is too quick and painless!
